Hot-new Subaru Impreza STI - first pic

This is the first official picture of the hotly-anticipated 2008 Subaru Impreza STI.
The shot highlights the beefed-up bodywork synonymous with the aggressive STI model.
The bulging wheel arches and deep front air intake mimic those of the forthcoming Impreza WRC shown at last weeks
The STI retains the trademark four-wheel drive and 2.5-litre turbocharged engine of its predecessor coupled to a low ratio six-speed gearbox.
With 300bhp, expect 0-60mph in less than five seconds and a top speed in excess of 150mph.
We expect fuel consumption to be similar to the old model, at around 25mpg, but the addition of a sixth gear not found in lesser models may improve economy slightly.
Standard features should include large alloy wheels, sports suspension, huge brakes, premium quality sound system and xenon headlamps.
The Impreza has anti-lock brakes and electronic brake force distribution to help prevent skidding and is fitted with curtain, side, driver and passenger airbags.
The original Impreza was launched in 1993 at a time when Subarus were a rare sight on British roads. Subaru decided against fancy marketing campaigns and went rallying to promote its cars.

The Impreza STI goes on sale in spring next year, with prices expected to be around £28,000.
