Seat has announced details of the fastest production version of its new Ibiza supermini – the new 177bhp Seat Ibiza Cupra.

The Seat Ibiza Cupra – a supermini rivalling the Vauxhall Corsa VXR – packs a turbocharged and supercharged 1.4-litre petrol engine developing 177bhp.

While performance figures aren’t available for the Seat Ibiza Cupra, we’d expect a 0-62mph time of less than seven seconds.

And the new Ibiza Cupra – penned by Luc Donckerwolke, who designed the Lamborghini Gallardo – will come with a seven-speed DSG gearbox with F1-style steering wheel mounted shift paddles, first seen in the £830,000 Bugatti Veyron.

The new Ibiza Cupra is based on the new SportCoupe three door bodyshape, boasting a new front bumper and air intakes surrounding the grille.

The Cupra version gets 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear diffuser with a centrally-placed exhaust pipe, while inside the mini hot-hatch gets sports seats and track-inspired aluminium pedals.

Seat has also announced its greenest Ibiza – the frugal new Seat Ibiza Ecomotive.

The new Ibiza Ecomotive is fitted with a 1.4-litre diesel engine which is capable of returning 74mpg on the combined cycle and emits just 99g/km of carbon emissions – making it road tax exempt.

The new Seat Ibiza Cupra and Ibiza Ecomotive will make their world debuts at the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October, with prices announced closer to their UK on sale dates next year.
