Seat's new Altea Freetrack 4x4
22 May 2007 Following the concept car that appeared at the Geneva Motor Show this March, the Altea Freetrack will only be available with a 198bhp 2.0-litre petrol or 168bhp 2.0-litre diesel when it goes on sale in the UK this September. There'll only be one high-specification trim, too, so expect starting prices to be high at around £19,000 or more. The Freetrack's ride height is increased by 40mm over the standard Altea, while a full-time automatic four-wheel-drive system can send up to 50% of the engine's power to the rear wheels if the front ones start to slip. There's also some brutish body-cladding and beefed-up bumpers to differentiate the car from the normal Altea XL. The high-specification trim will include a range of goodies, most noticeably a roof-mounted seven-inch screen in the rear that can be hooked up to a DVD player, video games console, MP3 player or a laptop.
