02 October 2007 Click here to see more pictures of the Gemballa Mirage GT The most exotic Porsche ever built – the Carrera GT – has been given a major workover by a top tuning firm. The Carrera GT is a rare sight, with 1,200 being built, yet for some even this exclusivity is not enough. Tuning company Gemballa is creating 25 special adaptations of the Carrera GT – called the Gemballa Mirage GT. 612bhp is increased to 672bhp, accelerating the Mirage GT from 0-62mph (100km/h) in 3.8 seconds. The car in our pictures is the 11th Mirage GT, and according to Gemballa it has been commissioned by “a well-known professional football player.” It has been finished – at request of the customer – in black paint which sparkles in the light thanks to glitter in the lacquer of the paint. Body modifications are extensive, and according to Gemballa, not just for show. The roof mounted air scoop feeds more air into the V10 engine allowing it to produce more power. The rear wing has a flap which flips up under braking to aid deceleration, in a similar way to that of the Mercedes McLaren SLR. The front, rear and sides of the car all undergo a transformation, making the Mirage GT look and function more like a racing car. The modification process costs from 229,800 Euros (£159,860), on top of the cost of a Carrera GT (no longer in production) costing £325,000 when new.
