Last Sunday saw Vauxhall?s British Touring Car Championship charger, James Thompson take his first championship title in his ninth year of trying.

Thompson?s title means that Vauxhall are the first team in the BTCC?s history to win the Manufacturers?, Teams? and Drivers? titles in consecutive years. However, the titles are only half the story. Of the 20 possible Touring class race wins, Vauxhalls have taken the chequered flag on no less than 15 occasions, and the Astra Coupe drivers have claimed an amazing 34 of 60 possible podium places.

Thompson?s teammate, Yvan Muller finished the season in second place, whilst Egg Sport Astra Coupe pilot, Matt Neal finished an impressive third.

James Thompson said "Many thanks to Vauxhall for giving me this opportunity and to the Triple Eight team who have given me the best car out there in the Astra Coupe. After nearly 200 BTCC races, this title means so much to me."

Vauxhall have already confirmed that they will be competing in next year?s championship with two more works Astra Coupes, run once more by Triple Eight Engineering.
