The world's first show dedicated to green cars opens its doors to the public today.

The Sexy Green Car Show at the Eden Project in Cornwall features environmentally-friendly road and race cars, including the Lola B2K Le Mans racer and a Ford Model T which has been converted to run on bio-ethanol.

Organisers hope the show, which is being held in the world's biggest greenhouse, will highlight the number of environmentally-friendly cars on the market.

Eden’s Marketing Director David Meneer said the show: "aims to give motorists who want to go ‘green’ a better understanding of Government schemes such as the new fridge-type efficiency labels on cars, tax bands on emissions and variable congestion charges."

The show is the first opportunity to see the Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion in the UK, which has an advanced diesel engine capable of more than 72mpg. VW claims it could be driven from London to Edinburgh for just over £20.

Other highlights include a 1920s Ford Model T which was converted to run on bio-ethanol at the orders of Henry Ford, a Lola Le Mans racer which is powered by bio-diesel and a ethanol-hybrid concept from Saab.

The show runs from today until April 15, and entry to the show is included in the standard admission to the Eden Project.
