02 October 2007 Click here to see the official pictures of the new Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X Mitsubishi has unveiled the first official pictures of the most potent Lancer the all new Evo X. The stunning four-door saloon marks a departure for the Japanese carmaker, shunning the boxy style and opting for a more streamlined design. Powering the next generation of rally monsters will be a 2-litre turbocharged engine producing just under 300bhp and over 300 lbs/ft of pulling power. Buyers can expect the Lancer Evo X to accelerate from 0-62mph (100kph) in just five seconds, topping out at around 160mph. Transferring this prodigious power output onto the road will be a complicated four-wheel drive system which can read driver intent and adapt the car to suit. The new Lancer Evolution X will house an array of driver aids to ensure optimum control is maintained throughout difficult conditions, including Active Braking Control, Active Skid Control, and Roll Control Suspension technologies. The Japanese car maker claims the new technology will give the Lancer Evolution X one of the most comprehensive and advanced road-holding systems ever. Massive 17-inch brakes at the rear and 18-inch at the front will provide ample stopping power. The width of the car has also been increased from the previous generation, ensuring the road-going rally car has ultimate grip. Mitsubishi is hoping the Evo X will compete with the new BMW M3 and Audi RS4 and has improved the quality of the oft-criticised interior finish, fitting in Recaro sports seats and a small diameter steering wheel.
