All-new Mitsubishi Evo – first pictures
Mitsubishi has revealed details of its first all-new Lancer Evolution in 20 years, ahead of its 2008 release. Set to be unveiled at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the rally thoroughbred has been described by a source at Mitsubishi as ‘a very different animal.’ While the new Subaru Impreza has a tamer look, the Evo has maintained its angular shape, which has made it a massive hit with red-blooded petrolheads the worldwide. Sitting on an entirely new platform, the Evo X will also boast a new engine and benefit from a DSG semi-automatic gearbox. Although performance details are yet to be confirmed, expect the 2-litre turbocharged engine to accelerate from 0-60mph in less than four seconds and have a top speed in excess of 160mph. While interior shots won’t be available until its Frankfurt launch, Auto Trader has been informed the Evo will have a much higher level of refinement as it competes with the sports saloon market – e.g. BMW M3 and Audi RS4 – for the first time. But if you want one, you’ll have to wait. The Evo doesn’t go on sale until March 1 next year.
