Cooper S gets auto 'box - News image

09 November 2004

For the first time, the Mini Cooper S hatchback and convertible will be offered with an automatic gearbox.

The six-speed auto 'box will be available from January 1 and includes Steptronic mode, which allows the driver to select gears, and steering wheel paddles as standard.

The new automatic gearbox will cost £1050. The Mini One and Cooper will continue to be offered with a continuously variable transmission, also costing £1050.

As well as the introduction of the automatic gearbox, Mini has upgraded its satellite navigation, which is available as an option across the range. The unit has been expanded to include a single-slot CD player and TMC, which allows the sat-nav to reroute around traffic jams. It will cost £1650, which is £240 more than the sat-nav option it replaces.
