06 September 2007 Click here for more pictures of the Mercedes C 63 AMG Mercedes has waded into the super-estate showdown with the launch of this, the new 155mph C63 AMG estate. Following in the footsteps of the Audi RS6 Avant, which was launched yesterday, the new Merc packs a whopping 6.3-litre V8 engine which pumps out 457bhp. This means a 0-62mph sprint in just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of an electronically limited 155mph. Following the current tradition of high-performance prestige models, AMG has installed a seven-speed automatic gearbox with two steering wheel-mounted paddles, allowing the driver to choose from a number of options to suit different driving conditions. Another unique feature to the C63 estate is the automatic throttle-blipping function when downshifting, allowing the committed driver to reduce speed quickly and safely. The canine-friendly C-class sports a 485 litre load capacity that can be expanded to 1,500 litres, and comes equipped with a new front axle and AMG sports suspension with ventilated and perforated disc-brakes all round to bring it to a halt. Distinctive AMG styling cues mark this estate from lesser versions and stand it next to its recently revealed sibling, the C63 AMG saloon. The kit includes a power dome on the front bonnet, AMG radiator grille, rear apron with a black diffuser and an AMG sports exhaust system finished with chrome tailpipes. The interior is fitted with AMG sports seats that provide integral head restraints and a tube-style instrument cluster. Customers can option a carbon-fibre trim to replace the standard aluminium.
