Mercedes has revealed details of the new C-Class Estate hot on the heels of the recently-launched saloon.

Available in SE, Elegance and Sport versions, Mercedes claim the new estate boasts a larger load capacity than its BMW and Audi rivals, with boot space topping 1,500 litres.

Stuttgart’s finest has also overhauled the engine range which includes the new C 220 CDI boasting 170bhp and 400 Nm (295 lbs/ft) of pulling power, returning a frugal 46.3mpg. The top of the range petrol C350 comes with 272bhp, which is harnessed via a seven speed auto box.

The new estate also comes complete with the standard-fit Agility Control package which adapts the shock absorbers to different driving conditions. Buyers can also spec out the AMG sports pack which adds 17-inch light alloy wheels, stiffer suspension and a lower ride height.

Inside, the new Merc gets a choice of three entertainment packages which will feature a Bluetooth interface and a keypad for entering phone numbers. The Audio 50 APS will feature pan-European DVD navigation, while the COMAND APS system will add a DVD player and music server for storing up to 1,000 tracks, alongside a voice-control system that recognises destinations and radio stations.

The estate will be premiered at the upcoming motor show in Frankfurt, and goes on sale in the UK market in summer 2008.
