Stunning Mazda coupe-SUV concept revealed
15 July 2008 Mazda has revealed a stunning new concept car – the Mazda Kazamai which will debut at the Moscow motor show in August. The new Mazda Kazamai – which means “swirling crosswinds” in Japanese – is a four-wheel-drive coupe-SUV crossover in the mould of the groundbreaking new BMW X6. And if the crazy Mazda Kazamai concept ever hits production, bosses at the Japanese firm claim it will offer “frugal fuel consumption and greatly reduced CO2 emissions” thanks to a next-generation direction injection engine. Mazda bosses say the new Kazamai is designed using ultra-efficient lightweight materials which are aerodynamically efficient – meaning the car can accelerate faster. The Kazamai concept is the winner of this year’s Grand Prix du Design in Paris, and will be displayed at the upcoming Moscow motor show in August. But festival goers would have spotted one of Mazda’s most outrageous concept cars in the flesh – the stunning Mazda Furai was at the 2008 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Mazda Furai – translated as “sound of the wind” – sports a 450bhp rotary engine, similar to the Mazda RX-8, but is built to run on 100 per cent ethanol.
