There may be a recession looming but this hasn’t stopped Lamborghini planning the world’s fastest one-make race series.

And you’ll need around £200,000 to take part in this ultra-exclusive event.

Lamborghini is building 30 Super Trofeo race cars based on the Gallardo LP560-4 for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series which will be available to ‘individual professional and ‘gentleman’ drivers as well as Lamborghini dealer teams’.

To create the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, the Italian car maker has taken the Gallardo LP560-4 and reduced weight to 1,300kg (less than a Ford Focus) and increased power very slightly to 570bhp.

The Lamborghini Super Trofeo has also had its chassis reworked with a new suspension specially tweaked for racetrack performance while the brakes have also been upgraded.

Additional body components include a carbon fibre wing while the interior consists of an ultra-light racing seat, racing steering wheel and specialised racing dials.

For 200,000 Euros + taxes and an additional entry fee, you’ll get the loan of a Lamborghini Super Trofeo for a season of six races.

During the events, Lamborghini will provide all drivers with a technology and parts service.

Each race will take part over a weekend with two 30 minute sessions on a Friday of which one will be qualifying before three 40 minute races spread across the weekend.

The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championship kicks off on May 3, 2009 at Silverstone before racing at Adria in Italy, Norisrin in Germany, Spa in Belgium, Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona before coming to a conclusion in Monza, Italy.
