Video: 570bhp racing Lamborghinis crash

The Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofeo racer is one of the rarest and most expensive cars in the world.

Which makes it all the more painful to watch this: footage compiled by Lamborghini of racing Gallardos smashing into each other.

Edited from the race at the Norisring in Germany earlier this year, the footage shows that despite talent, all-wheel-drive and wide-open track space, the urge to total a precious Lamborghini is too strong to resist.

And what a Lamborghini – the company made just 30 examples for the inaugural 2009 season of the one-make Super Trofeo series.

The racers are modified versions of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, each boasting 570bhp, all-wheel-drive, racing suspension, competition tyres, a “brutal” brake system and carbon fibre bits and pieces.

Lamborghini will happily supply you with a Super Trofeo racer to take part in the one-make series…for the price of more than £200,000 upon producing your racing licence.

We think there is something seriously cool in a manufacturer releasing footage of its own cars crunching into each other in its own racing series – which more than adds to the punk-roots legend of the famous Italian supercar maker.
