Bigger diesel for X-type
06 May 2005 The X-type will cost from around £22,000 with the new 153bhp engine, around £1000 more than today's 128bhp 2.0-litre diesel version. Sales start in September. Jaguar claims the new engine can power the car from rest to 60mph in 8.5sec, compared with 11.4sec for the 2.0-litre diesel. It will rival the smaller engine for frugality, with average fuel economy of 47.1mpg for the X-type saloon and 45.6mpg for the estate. This is only around 2mpg less than the 2.0-litre diesel. A six-speed manual gearbox will be also introduced in an attempt to improve performance and ensure relaxed high-speed driving. Jaguar believes this should also help cut the new model's carbon dioxide emissions, which are only marginally higher than the 2.0-litre diesel saloon's. Both diesel engines comply with Euro IV emissions requirements, which are mandatory from January 2006. |
