Honda is to update its Civic Type-S hatchback and is also increasing its price by £500.

The Type-S, which is the most powerful five-door model in the Civic range, will cost £15,513 from May 1.

Revisions include a new Vehicle Stability Assist programme, which incorporates traction and cruise control systems and aims to improve the Type-S's handling. Larger 16-inch alloy wheels with wider tyres are also fitted to boost grip.

A closer-ratio transmission improves acceleration, cutting the car's 0-60mph time by 0.2sec to 8.7sec. Top speed remains at 130mph. Fuel consumption for the updated car is identical at 37.7mpg, while its emissions keep the Type-S in the 21% company car tax band.
