Fiat 500: First pictures
Fiat has announced official details of the replacement of the world’s sexiest car. Last year Top Gear gave the accolade to the original Fiat 500 – more than 30 years after the last one rolled off the production line. Now the Italian manufacturer has brought the little car back from the dead – targeting the small car market, which is dominated by the Mini. The three door supermini will be initially available with a choice of three engines; a 75bhp 1.3-litre turbodiesel, and 1.2 and 1.4-litre petrol models producing 69bhp and 100bhp respectively.
Inside, the 500 boasts a chic interior and large, all-in-one speedometer – similar to the Mini. First unveiled as a concept at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show, the 500 is just 3.5 metres long and 1.65 metres wide – smaller than a Ford Ka. Prices haven’t been announced yet but expect to cost around £11,000 – rising to £16,000 for the Abarth model. The supermini will go sale on July 4 - exactly 50 years after the first Nuovo Fiat 500 rolled off the production line.

The models will be available with a choice of five or six-speed gearbox, while Fiat will also be introducing a hot Abarth model, powered by a 1.4-litre turbo, producing 155bhp.
