FBI agent crashes Ferrari F50
28 May 2009
An FBI agent has crashed a Ferrari F50 into a tree according to reports in the USA.
The agent is believed to have been driving the ultra-rare supercar to a warehouse to be stored after it was seized from a suspected drug dealer when the incident happened.
Police told a local Kentucky news station the car was going at about 40mph when the crash took place, with a tyre blowout potentially causing the accident.
Two things:
• A tyre blowout at 40mph is quite a slow speed
• Not using a low-loader to transport a seized F50 seems an interesting decision
These pictures from US website Wrecked Exotics show the F50 with damage affecting the front and where the door reaches the mid-mounted engine.
Fortunately the driver wasn’t seriously injured although when we hear the words ‘Ferrari’ and ‘law enforcer’ we can’t help thinking of Will Smith in Bad Boys 2.
We wonder if he’s got a boss like Joe Pantoliano’s Captain Howard character in the film – now that would make an interesting de-briefing.
The Ferrari F50 was built between 1996 and 1998 to celebrate 50 years of the Prancing Horse.
With a 4.7-litre V12 engine developing 513bhp, the F50 can accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 202mph.
Just 349 F50s were ever built with supercar bible Evo describing it as ‘the best driver’s Ferrari’.
Auto Trader currently has two F50s for sale:
