The Dodge Challenger SRT8 – which stands for Street Racing Technology – is a remake of the classic Challenger from the 1970s. More than 6,000 people have placed orders already, with future buyers expected to be facing a large waiting list. The new Dodge Challenger SRT8 will be unveiled at the Chicago Motor Show in February 2008, and is powered by a 6.1-litre V8 HEMI engine. Power figures haven’t been announced, but earlier HEMI engines produced more than 400bhp. Dodge has borrowed heavily from the stunning concept debuted at the 2006 North American Motor Show, and the model features square exhaust tips, massive five-spoke alloy wheels and the SRT8 badge. The hot Challenger SRT8 will be available in black, silver, or the eye-catching HEMI orange – as shown in the pictures. And according to Dodge, it will be a bright American assault – more than half of all orders placed have been for the HEMI orange. The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8’s prices start at $37,995 – just under £19,000, although it is not likely the final production version will reach UK shores. |
