The first details of the all-new Citroen C5 have been released ahead of its 2008 launch.

The latest Citroen C5 has a fresh new look, new chassis and will be released with a large choice of specifications and engines in both a saloon and estate body.

The C5 will be available with two petrol engines, a 1.8 and 2-litre producing 127bhp and 143bhp respectively.

There will also be four diesel engines, each fitted with either a five or six-speed gearbox and a special filter that helps reduce harmful emissions.

The range-topping V6 diesel uses a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Citroen C5 will feature a ‘fixed-hub steering wheel’. This is where the centre of the wheel stays still as your turn it, while cruise control, stereo and telephone controls are placed in the static centre.

The main instrument dials feature digital displays, while a traditional needle sweeps around the outer edge.

For a refined journey, the Citroen C5 is fitted with an acoustic windscreen, laminated side windows, damped mountings and acoustic barriers inside the bodywork.

All C5s feature an electronic parking brake, while options include Xenon lights, satellite navigation with a seven inch display and telephone connection.

Up to nine airbags are fitted, along with safety features including electronic brake force distribution, braking assistance, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability programme.

The Citroen C5 goes on sale in May next year, with prices starting at around £15,500. The estate version is on sale a month later.
