Caterham has built a supercar-bashing version of the classic 7 sports car with a power-to-weight ratio greater than the Bugatti Veyron.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the Caterham X330 boasts an incredible 600bhp per tonne compared to the Veyron’s 521bhp – which is the world’s fastest car.

Using a 2.3-litre supercharged Ford engine, the two-seater produces 330bhp – giving incredible acceleration.

There are no figures available, but the CSR260 on which it is based on is capable of 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.

The British car maker will also use the X330 to spearhead its research into bioethanol power.

Caterham say the X330 is currently a concept, but a source at the Kent carmaker says it will eventually find its way into production.
