Fastest ever Caterham unveiled
08 October 2004 Called the Seven CSR, the new model uses a 2.3-litre engine, developed for Caterham by tuning company Cosworth. A 200bhp version costs £27,450, while the 260bhp car is £33,950 and offers 10bhp more than the £35,000 Superlight R600. The 260bhp CSR is the fastest car Caterham has ever produced, sprinting to 60mph in just 3.1sec, which is 0.1sec quicker than the R600. Top speed is 155mph. Even the 200bhp car achieves 60mph in 3.7sec and goes on to 140mph. The manufacturer says the CSR has a stiffer bodyshell and chassis than ever. Independent rear suspension is used for the first time, while a new set-up for the front uses a wider track for even greater cornering ability. Inside, the instrumentation used on other Sevens is replaced with new dials on a fascia that curves around the driver. Unlike Superlight models, the CSR is also fitted with cloth seats, carpeting and a heater. Customers can place their order for a CSR from now, with deliveries from next spring. |
