These engines are linked to a five-speed gearbox and emit less than 160g/km of carbon dioxide. A range of diesel engines are promised in due course. Seat claims the new model will showcase a range of class-leading features, including a seven-speed DSG semi-automatic gearbox, hill hold assist and fog lights which aim around corners. Safety equipment includes head and thorax-focused front side airbags and wide inclusion of Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and traction control in the range. The Seat Ibiza has grown in length from 3.97 metres to 4.05 metres, which should make rear seat legroom more practical. The new car has a 292-litre boot, which Seat claims is the largest in the supermini class. Seat state today’s launch is the start of a major product drive, which will include further Ibiza variants and a new saloon and estate car in the upper medium segment which includes the Ford Mondeo and Citroen C5. The Seat Bocanegra concept car was a big hit at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and the Seat Ibiza is a toned down version of the show car. View more pictures of the Seat Ibiza
