Video: BMW 7 Series launched inside egg timer
16 July 2008
The new BMW 7 Series has been launched in Moscow’s famous Red Square – inside a giant purpose-built egg timer.
BMW built the 12-metre tall egg timer – the largest egg-timer in the world – in the centre of Russia, in front of St Basil’s Cathedral and the Kremlin, which houses the Russian government.
The Moscow launch of the new BMW 7 Series, which is the German carmaker’s most luxurious model, was a glamorous black-tie event with the motto “Never Stand Still.”

The new BMW 7 Series is the most technologically advanced model to wear the famous blue and white badge.
And the new 7 Series features two new engines for the luxury executive saloon: a 326bhp twin-turbocharged petrol engine powering the BMW 740i, and the range-topping 407bhp twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 engine fitted in the new 750i and the ground-breaking new BMW X6.
BMW’s 3-litre diesel engine has also been re-engineered and now packs a 245bhp punch and a mighty 422lb/ft of pulling power.
Thanks to its 39.2mpg and emissions of 192g/km (placing it in £210 tax band F) the diesel looks set to be the range’s best selling model in the UK after its predecessor made up 85 per cent of 7-Series sales.

BMW design chief Chris Bangle – responsible for the controversial ‘flame-surfacing’ style seen on the BMW 5 Series and BMW Z4 – said the new BMW 7 Series was “very emotional.”
Chris Bangle said: “The 7 Series is our top of the line product but this time I think we really gain from perfect proportions. The engineers put a lot of work into the new 7 Series.
“It is a dynamic car, but with these really good proportions the elegance comes across and I think it is something the 7 Series really deserved to have – another beautiful layer of elegance on top of what was already an avante garde sporting car.”
