The BMW 3 Series has beaten the likes of the Volkswagen Golf and Honda Accord to be named most reliable car.

And it was a double victory for BMW as the German car maker was also named most reliable manufacturer.

Almost 900,000 cars were assessed by Fleet News for its annual FN50 reliability survey with the BMW 3 Series (which was recently face-lifted) coming top ahead of theToyota Avensis and Honda Accord.

Fourth place went to the VW Golf while the BMW-owned Mini made up the top five.

BMW topped the list of most reliable manufacturers ahead of Honda, Toyota, Ford and Volkswagen.

Fleet News came to these conclusions by assessing 881,000 cars according to the number of breakdowns per 100 of each type of model on the leasing company’s fleet.
