Man United striker Wayne Rooney has signed a £1 million contract to be an ambassador for Mercedes.

As part of the two year deal, the England international will have to drive a Mercedes to all matches and most training sessions – leaving wife Coleen to drive the rest of the dream cars in the Rooney garage.

But 22-year-old Rooney has bagged himself a customised Mercedes CL 63 AMG worth more than £120,000 for his troubles.

The Man United star will also be allowed to drive the rest of the company’s models including the C63 AMG and CLS as well as having a chauffeur-driven Merc for public events.

The new Mercedes CL 63 AMG has a 6.2-litre V8 under the bonnet developing 525bhp and 465lb/ft of pulling power.

This will accelerate the two-door coupe from 0-62mph (100kph) in 4.6 seconds and on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph.

Despite his young age, the £100,000-a-week player has had his fair share of supercars including a Lamborghini Gallardo, Bentley Continental GT, Ferrari F430 and an Aston Martin Vanquish – the latter being sold on Auto Trader earlier this year.

But while he can't drive any of these cars to matches, he can still drive another one of his supercars - a limited edition, 199mph Mercedes CLK DTM which would have set him back £200,000 - or a fortnight's wages.

Rooney has also owned a Mini GP, while his first set of wheels was a humble Ford Sport KA.

This latest deal for the commercially successful youngster is likely to intensify the ongoing car park war at Old Trafford where the multi-millionaire superstars try to outdo each other with their stunning machines.

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently leading the pack after forking out a reported £350,000 for a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe to sit alongside his Audi R8 and Bentley Continental GTC, while it’s believed the Portuguese star has a Bugatti Veyron on order after racing one for a commercial.
