All footballers drive Bentley Continental GTs don’t they? Not Peter Crouch, he drives a Continental Flying Spur.

We say drives, we mean drove – it’s now for sale on Auto Trader.

England and Portsmouth striker Crouch, who is rumoured to have just got engaged to his stunning missus Abbey Clancy, was the first owner of the luxury saloon which he bought as a Liverpool player in September 2007.

The Bentley is powered by a 6-litre W12 engine which develops 556bhp and 479lb/ft of pulling power.

All this power means the four-wheel drive Bentley will accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of 194mph. It was the world’s fastest production saloon until Bentley launched a 202mph Speed model last year.

While we reckon Crouch would have driven the car most of the time, if he and The Clancy needed to be chauffeured to a posh event there’s no doubt there would be room in the back for the 6ft 7in striker – the Bentley is massive.

Crouch opted for the £6,370 Mulliner specification which gets 20-inch alloy wheels, diamond quilted leather, an embroidered Bentley emblem in the headrest, indented headlining and a knurled chrome/hide gear lever. Very suave Peter…

The footballer, who is currently being linked with a £12 million move to Sunderland, owned the car until May last year.

If he makes the move it will be his seventh permanent club having previously played for Tottenham Hotspur, QPR, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Southampton and Liverpool. The journeyman has also played on loan for Dulwich, IFK Hassleholm and Norwich City.

Peter Crouch is one of England’s most popular footballers thanks to his height and legendary Robotics performed around the 2006 World Cup.

At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Crouch reportedly saw a Hyundai Santa Fe on display (the Koreans sponsored the event) and decided he liked it.

After making a deal with Hyundai, Crouch took delivery of the 4x4. Strangest car purchase by a big-earning footballer? It’s certainly up there with Ronaldo’s diesel Mercedes.

When it was new, the Bentley Continental Flying Spur would have cost Peter around £120,000.

With 17,300 miles on the clock, you can buy it from Maidenhead-based Marlow Cars for £82,500.
