How would you like to get your hands on a luxury Mercedes formally owned by England’s most capped footballer for less than £5,000?

Auto Trader has legendary goalkeeper Peter Shilton’s 1995 Mercedes CL500 coupe for sale.

The German sports car – which cost £95,000 new – is powered by a 5-litre V8 producing 315bhp and 360lb/ft of pulling power.

Accelerating from 0-62mph (100kph) in 7.4 seconds, the CL500 has a top speed of 155mph.

Luxury features on Shilton’s Merc include heated electric Nappa leather seats, air-con, electric double glazing and electric seatbelts. 

Other sexy qualities include a sports gearbox, 18-inch alloys and a top-end sound system.

And it’s a safe car as well boasting anti-lock brakes, traction control and an alarm and immobiliser.

Peter Shilton is England’s most capped footballer.

Between 1970 and 1990, the super-stopper played 125 games for the Three Lions, competing in three World Cups and two European Championships.

He was also the man who conceded one of the most controversial goals of all time – Maradona’s infamous Hand of God against Argentina in 1986. 

You can get you hands on Peter Shilton’s old Mercedes – which has covered 106,000 miles and has a full Mercedes-Benz service history – for £4,500.
