Hammond back in the driving seat
03 November 2006 Richard Hammond has taken another step on the road to recovery, and is back in the driving seat of his weekly column in The Daily Mirror. And the Top Gear star has revealed some new details about the car he crashed at almost 300mph in while filming for the show in September. Hammond said: "Of course, I could do a road test of the last car I drove before things went wonky, but as that was the jet car I crashed, it's probably a bit specialised." "Mind you, it was amazing to discover how few controls there were in a jet-powered car. Just switch on the engine, wind it up then take your foot off the brake and hold on to your hat. Until things went wrong it was easy." The Hamster is back reviewing cars - but his wife is doing the driving. The 36-year-old star travelled as a passenger in an Audi S6 driven by Mindy. Hammond said: "Honestly, you have one bad day at the office and everyone goes on about it. I'm not allowed to drive until the doctors say so – and they haven’t yet."
