Geneva 2010: Audi A1
02 March 2010
The Audi A1 – which will be available to order from May, with prices starting around £13,000 – looks set to give the Mini something to worry about.
Audi will offer three engines from launch; two petrol engines of 1.2 and 1.4-litres in size, which both emit 119g/km and return 55.4mpg. A 1.6-litre diesel will also be available, which will be the most efficient in the line up, returning 72.4mpg and emitting 102g/km.
Audi has moved the engine further back over the front axle, which should give a balanced chassis for improved handling. It also features the latest-generation ESP which is tuned for better traction and agility.
The Audi A1 Project Quattro concept looked great, but early pictures of the production car revealed some slightly awkward lines. However in the metal, it looks just as funky as the Mini from most angles.
The interior is one of the finest to be fitted in a supermini, with typical Audi minimalism and tremendous build quality.
