Aston Martin One-77 makes world debut
27 April 2009
The first fully functioning Aston Martin One-77 has made its world debut at an Italian car show.
And the new top-of-the-range Aston won the Best Concept Car or Prototype award.
Aston’s ultimate car beat the likes of the Fisker Karma and Stile Bertone Mantide at the Concourso d’Eleganza on the shores of Lake Como.
The One-77, which has appeared at the Paris and Geneva motor shows in early development stages, picked up more than 30 per cent of the votes at the event.
Aston Martin chief executive Dr Ulrich Bez said: “Embodying everything Aston Martin stands for; the One-77 has proven itself as the most desirable automotive art form at its premiere.
“We have achieved a new level of design and craftsmanship which has been clearly recognised by the public here in the homeland of design at Villa d’Este.”
Limited to just 77 models, the Aston Martin is powered by a 7.3-litre V12 engine developing in excess of 700bhp.
There are no official performance figures but the Gaydon car maker is confident of a 3.5 second 0-62mph time and a top speed in excess of 200mph.
It is expected to come with a price-tag around the £1.2 million mark and despite the economic situation there has been no shortage of interest.
However, you can’t just walk into the showroom and buy one.
Potential customers who declare their interest can visit the car maker’s factory to see the car being produced before getting their chequebooks out.
