German company Brabus has got its hands on the new Mercedes SLK 55 AMG and turned it into a 191mph monster.

Brabus has taken out the Mercedes SLK 55 AMG’s 5.4-litre V8 engine and fitted a 6.1-litre lump producing 445bhp and 468lb/ft of pulling power – an increase of 85bhp and 92lb/ft.

This slashes the 0-62mph (100kph) time by 0.6 seconds to 4.3 seconds and gives the Mercedes SLK 55 AMG a top speed of 191mph.

Power is transferred to the two-seat convertible’s rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox.

To deal with the increased power and performance, Brabus has fitted the Mercedes SLK 55 AMG with 355mm brakes on the front and 300mm on the rear, which will be housed inside a set of 19-inch alloy wheels.

Handling has been optimised with a front spoiler which reduces lift at high speeds, giving the Merc a more balanced feel, while sports suspension lowers the ride by 30mm to reduce body roll through fast corners.

The Mercedes SLK has been on sale in the UK for 12 years, with the third-generation just launched.

Customers looking for a standard, ‘non-Brabus-ed’ SLK get the choice of four engines, from the entry-level 1.8-litre SLK 200 Kompressor to the range-topping 155mph SLK 55 AMG we test-drove.

The new Mercedes SLK was launched alongside a face-lifted Mercedes CLS four door coupe and all-new Mercedes SL.

While full prices for the Brabus-tuned Mercedes SLK 55 AMG haven’t been revealed, expect to pay about £80,000  - £30,000 more than the standard Merc.
