Peugeot has denied rumours it is gearing up to make the sensational 308 RC Z coupe concept just seen at the Frankfurt motor show earlier this year.

But Peugeot has not ruled out the car totally.

Speaking to Auto Trader, a Peugeot spokesperson said: “If the green light was switched on for the 308 RC Z coupe concept we would expect it to appear some time between early to mid 2009.”

Rumours suggest the French carmaker is keen to put the stunning 308 RC Z coupe concept into production, following its hot debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

The Peugeot 308 RC Z is a stylish Audi TT-esque coupe, and the concept which debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show featured a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine from the 207 GTi and a six-speed gearbox.

And this engine shoots the sexy Pug from 0-62mph in 7.1s and on to a top speed of 146mph.

Despite this performance, the 308 RC Z can still manage 42.2mpg while emitting 160g/km of carbon dioxide – much less than the 140mph 307 CC Sport.

The front of the 308 RC Z is dominated by a huge pair of headlights and Peugeot’s distinctive gaping mouth grille.

And the concept coupe certainly looks every inch the sportscar with massive 19-inch alloy wheels and a centrally mounted twin exhaust pipe at the rear.
