Suzuki announce funky supermini concept
13 December 2007 This picture is the best indication yet as to the look of Suzuki’s all-new city car. The handsome Suzuki A-Star will complete directly with the Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107, Citroen C1, Daihatsu Sirion and Vauxhall Agila. It has a bold design language with strong lines and large wheelarches. Clever packaging means a five-door model is on the cards, suggesting interior space will be good. The Suzuki A-Star concept will feature a 1-litre engine made from lightweight aluminium and it should have lower emissions than many of its European competitors. Suzuki also claims its economical attributes will not get in the way of the sporty and exciting performance it build into its cars. The Suzuki A-Star will be the spiritual successor of the carmakers last small car, the Suzuki Alto which was on sale in the UK between 2003 and 2006. The Alto was admirably cheap to run with low insurance costs and high fuel economy. Like the Suzuki Alto the A-Star will be built in India by Suzuki’s subsidiary Maturi which plans to expand production capacity to almost one million units per year. For the first time, Maturi’s research and development team have been involved in the initial stages of the design process. The concept will be on display in January at the Auto Expo motor show in New Dehli. Production of the A-Star, under its final name, is scheduled to start in October 2008 and it will be marketed in mainly in Europe and India priced between £6-7,000. |
