22 November 2007 Land Rover is celebrating 60 years of Defender production by unveiling the most stylish and feature packed edition in its illustrious history. The SVX builds on Land Rover’s timeless appeal with special metallic black paintwork, with many exterior features finished in contrasting silver. There are robust tubular side-steps, a new surround for the front grille and clear-lens headlamps and LED rear lights. New ‘diamond turned’ five-spoke alloy wheels and a toughened aluminium front undershield reinforce the Defender’s go-anywhere stance. Inside you are gripped by Recaro front seats normally associated with sports cars and entertained by a new audio system complete with a subwoofer for extra bass and an iPod cradle and USB socket. Satellite navigation is also supplied so you don’t get lost in the urban jungle. The Land Rover Defender SVX will be built in small numbers, with 140 two-seat Defenders, 60 four-seat station wagons and 90 soft-top models planned. The soft-top is very striking, thanks to its silver tubular steel roll cage, cocooning occupants inside the removable fabric hood. To mark the SVX’s exclusivity a numbered plaque is fitted with the build number of the Defender stamped proudly onto it. Production of the SVX starts in spring next year, with the first reaching customers in summer. Prices have yet to be announced. Zara Phillips pulled the sheets off the Land Rover Defender SVX at the British Red Cross Ball in London, and that car will now be donated to the Red Cross to mark the 53 year partnership enjoyed by the two companies. |
