Lancia's UK return is for the long-term
24 October 2007
The Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf rival is eagerly anticipated by marque aficionados, particularly as it revives the Delta name for which Lancia is best known in the UK thanks to the Integrale. The car will be displayed at the Geneva motor show in March 2008, before being given its international launch in May and then going on sale in the UK in October. Although no prices or trim details have been released yet, a wide range of petrol and diesel engines is expected, ranging in power from 120bhp to more than 200bhp. Fiat's new twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine is expected to feature in the range. The car is based on the same platform as the new Fiat Bravo, but has an extended wheelbase to allow for significantly more rear legroom. Lancias will go on sale in selected Alfa Romeo dealerships, although precise details of which locations are still being finalised. 'The Delta HPE will be the first of several Lancias coming to the UK in coming years,' said a company source. 'There is still a very active enthusiasm for Lancia in the UK and the mood within the company is that we can do good business here. 'It's not going to be the case that Lancia returns with a big hoo-hah and major promotion offensive, but we will give it all the support it needs to succeed.' The return of Lancia to the UK has been made possible by demand for its products in South Africa and the Pacific Rim, where right-hand-drive is required. Following the launch of the Delta HPE, the second new product to come to the UK is expected to be a sporty coupe called the Fulvietta. | ||
