Buyers of new cars urged to haggle
15 October 2007
Motorists are spending £675 million too much because they are not happy to haggle over price. Figures released by Sainsbury’s Bank showed that bashful barterers could save £1,585 each in the period up to February 2008 if they haggled on cars they plan to purchase. The survey of 2,032 adults found that while 20 per cent of motorists planning to buy a brand new car between September 2007 and February 2008 do not intend to haggle at all over price, 26 per cent will haggle only “slightly.” And only a third of potential purchasers plan to haggle “very hard”. Steven Baillie, head of Sainsbury’s Loans, said “Our latest research reveals that the number of people looking to buy a brand new car is up on the same period six months ago. “We would advise people to make sure they secure the best possible deal by being prepared to haggle over the price of their new vehicle. Furthermore, if you’re looking to finance your new car purchase through a loan, you also need to make sure that you shop around to find the right scheme for you.” Auto Trader links | ||
