Click here to view more pics of the awesome Mini Challenge Mini has revealed details of its hottest Cooper model yet - and Auto Trader has the first pictures. The super-light Mini Challenge is powered by a twin-turbocharged 1.6-litre engine producing 210bhp and 191lb/ft of pulling power. This launches the Mini from 0-62mph (100kph) in just 6.1 seconds before running on to a ferociously-fast 149mph – 9mph more than a standard Cooper S. But it’s bad news for road-going fans – the Mini will not be licensed for public highways. To improve handling, John Cooper Works have tuned the chassis and fitted a KW Automotive suspension designed specifically for motorsport. And to enhance the hot hatches sporting pedigree, it rolls on 17-inch Borbet alloy wheels with Dunlop racing tyres. The awesome brakes stop the Mini from 62-0mph in just 3.1 seconds. Mini has fitted the Challenge with an aerodynamic bodykit designed to increase downforce at higher speeds and is 30kg lighter than the outgoing model. For safety, the Mini has a roll cage, Recaro bucket seats, and a head and neck support system as used on Formula 1 cars. It’s been designed for the Mini Challenge race series, where races are staged in countries such as The Mini John Cooper Works Challenge – to give it its full name – goes on sale in March next year expecting to cost £34,000.
