A top-of-the-range Mercedes S Class once owned by eccentric goalkeeper Fabien Barthez is for sale on Auto Trader.

The World Cup winning Frenchman bought the Merc in 2001 when he was at Manchester United. The fully loaded model boasts sat-nav, DVD/TV, a fitted Nokia phone kit and keyless start.

The 2001 S500 four-door saloon is powered by a 306bhp V8, which catapults the Merc from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds before reaching a limited top speed of 155mph.

Having covered just 30,000 miles, the S Class has upgraded AMG alloys, four new tyres, full Mercedes-Benz service history and front and rear parking sensors.

Barthez – who played for France 86 times - shares the record for most clean sheets in the World Cup with England stopper Peter Shilton, keeping ten in total.

Famous for having his forehead kissed by French defender Laurent Blanc before each game for good luck, Barthez won the World Cup ‘98 and Euro 2000.

Brand new, the fully-loaded Merc would set you back £70,000 but you can get your hands Fabien’s motor for £22,495.
