Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport – £1.2 million + taxes The recently unveiled Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport is the world’s fastest convertible and is capable of 225mph with the glass roof removed. Keep the roof on and the Grand Sport – thanks to its 1,001bhp – will do 250mph. However, this performance comes with devastating CO2 emissions. It emits 999g/km of the bad stuff, which is ten times as much as a VW Polo BlueMotion. The convertible Veyron will set back the super-rich £1.2 million + taxes.
Koenigsegg CCXR – £1,070,040 + taxes The Koenigsegg CCX is one of the world’s fastest cars, capable of speeds of 245mph. But that’s not fast enough for Christian Koenigsegg who has built the world’s first green hypercar – the CCXR. By allowing the CCXR to run on environmentally-friendly biofuel, the Swedish rocket develops more than 1,000bhp and has a claimed top speed of 250mph. The Koenigsegg CCXR costs £1,070,040 + taxes
Lamborghini Reventon – £800,000 Italian supercar king Lamborghini is a car maker on the up boasting record sales and profits thanks to the likes of the Gallardo and Murcielago. These cars have afforded Lamborghini the confidence to build its most extravagant machine ever – the Reventon. Using the same platform as the Murcielago LP640, the Reventon’s design is based on fighter jet and made of carbon fibre. It will accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds and hit 211mph – but costs £800,000. Just 20 will be built and they’ve all been pre-ordered.
Maserati MC12 – £515,000 With a 6-litre V12 engine developing 621bhp the MC12 is Maserati’s most extreme car with stunning track performance and a top speed of 205mph. The carbon fibre supercar car is 5.1-metres long, 2.1-metres wide with poor all-round vision. Driving it down the width-restricted roads of London probably isn’t one of the best things to do. Because at £515,000, the last thing you want to do is scratch it.
Pagani Zonda F Roadster CS – £450,000 One of the most recent car makers to join the supercar fraternity, Pagani uses Mercedes engines to power its stunning machines. Under the bonnet of the Zonda F Roadster CS is a 7.3-litre V12 powerplant developing 650bhp in a car weighing 1,230kg. The result is 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 215mph. This made it the world’s fastest convertible until the Veyron Grand Sport dethroned it.

SSC Ultimate Aero TT – £400,000 Being the world’s fastest car doesn’t make the SSC Ultimate Aero TT the world’s most expensive car. But at £400,000 it’s not exactly Ford Focus money. Splashing out on an Aero TT and you’ll get 1,183bhp and 1,094lb/ft of pulling power – 20 times more than a typical supermini. This rockets the SSC from 0-62mph in 2.78 seconds and on to a top speed of 257mph. And it wheel spins at 190mph.
In the pipeline – Aston Martin One-77 £1 million
By the end of next year, the super-rich will be able to get their hands on Aston Martin’s boldest ever project – the One-77. Costing a cool £1 million, the ultimate Aston will be powered by a 7-litre V12 engine producing more than 650bhp – giving the British supercar a top speed in the region of 220mph. Could this be James Bond’s next company car?
