It’s official – the new Volkswagen Scirocco is finally here and reignites the classic icon from the Seventies.

But if this isn’t your cup of tea fear not – Vijay Pattni rounds up six of the hottest new cars motoring their way towards a dealership near you in the next six months.

Ford Fiesta

The stunning new Ford Fiesta – the latest version of the iconic supermini which is more than 30 years old – takes strong design cues from the Verve Concept unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt motor show last year.

And the stunning new Ford Fiesta will be powered by a range of engines, including an all-new 115bhp 1.6-litre Duratec unit – offering up 15bhp more than the engine it replaces.

The new Ford Fiesta sports a strong coupe-like shape and will be offered in both three and five door models, while the inside sports a “mobile-phone” inspired layout.

Vauxhall Insignia

This is the sleek new Vauxhall Insignia – the long-awaited replacement for the Vauxhall Vectra.

The new Vauxhall Insignia will feature the Luton carmaker’s boldest design yet, echoing cues from the super-sexy GTC concept car.

And the new Insignia promises to be a stormer, with a reported 300bhp range-topping version with a four-wheel-drive system.

But there’s still great deals to be had on the current Vauxhall Vectra.

The stunning new Volkswagen Passat CC wades into battle with the Mercedes CLS with this new four-seater coupe-saloon.

The Volkswagen Passat CC will be offered in two trim levels and will come with a range of engines including a 140bhp 2-litre diesel unit – the likely best seller – and a range-topping 300bhp 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine.

The new Passat CC will also borrow luxury items from its Phaeton and Touraeg siblings, including Lane Assist and Automatic Distance Control.

Prices start from £21,040.

The new seven-seat Nissan Qashqai will debut at the British motor show next month and is fitted with a range of electronic safety aids and four-wheel-drive.

And Nissan is offering up a range of frugal petrol and diesel engines including a 1.6-litre “low noise” diesel unit producing 140bhp.

Renault Laguna Coupe

The super-sexy Renault Laguna coupe was launched at the 61st Cannes Film Festival earlier this year – matching up superstars to the supermodel looks of the French carmaker’s new motor.

The new Laguna coupe will share its chassis with the new Laguna saloon and will be offered with two V6 engines when it launches at the 2008 British motor show, including a range-topping 3.5-litre unit churning out 240bhp.

We’ve driven the Renault Laguna hatchback and the sporty Renault Laguna GT.
