08 January 2009
Car insurance premiums could rise by 20 per cent this year, some UK insurers have warned.

Every UK car is classed in one of 20 insurance groups, with 1 being the cheapest and 20 the most expensive. You’re more likely to get a better insurance quote if you own a car in the lowest group.

Toyota Aygo/Citroen C1/Peugeot 107

The Toyota Aygo makes a great inner-city car with its four star EuroNCAP safety rating and nippy engine.

Both 1.2-litre Campus variants of the Renault Clio fall into insurance group 1 and emit 140g/km of CO2, placing them into tax band C at £120 per year.
Buyers who want better mileage should opt for a 1.5dCi Clio which can reach 64.2mpg but costs more and has variants in insurance group 2 and 3.
Ford Ka
