While Rafael Nadal was serving up a fortnight of majestic tennis at Wimbledon, three miles up the road another eye-catching spectacle was taking place – the 2008 Salon Prive supercar event.

With an unbelievable selection of cars on show, Adrian Hearn swopped strawberries and cream for lobster and champagne to get a glimpse at the UK’s most exclusive prestige car event.

Salon Prive is no ordinary motor show. It has THREE Bugatti Veyrons on display.

Alongside the standard £830,000 Veyron at the Hurlingham Club near Putney Bridge, south-west London were two special edition models – the recently unveiled Bugatti Veyron Sang Noir and the Hermes Bugatti Veyron, which made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

While these three cars may cost astronomical amounts, they are closer in cost to an entry-level Ford Focus than they were to a particular Ferrari on display.

Chris Evans’ 1961 Ferrari 250 California was parked on the private club’s pristine lawn – the same Ferrari which hit the headlines earlier this year when the DJ forked out more than £5 million on it at an auction in Italy.

Other cars exhibited included two McLaren F1 GTRs worth more than £1 million each, a Ford GT40, Enzo Ferrari, and a Porsche 356, one of two cars on show owned by Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay. Also on display was one of the supercars of the year – the stunning-but-sold-out Alfa 8C Competizione gleaming under the sunlight in awesome red.

The Salon Prive also doubles up as the ultimate sales forecourt with dealers such as Rolls-Royce, Maybach and Lamborghini showing off the models to potential buyers.

Range Rover modifiers Overfinch knew the Salon Prive market, giving its £143,950 Range Rover Country Pursuits car – complete with sliding doors to hold a set of crystal champagne glasses – a display spot on the Putney Bridge estate.

However, unlike your more traditional motor shows such as this year’s British International Motor Show where it cost £10 for adults to get in during the week, Salon Prive is a touch more expensive – tickets are a wallet-stretching £125 each.
