The Goodwood Festival of Speed closed on Sunday with Lewis Hamilton entertaining a packed crowd.

The Earl of March led the crowd in raising a glass of championship to toast Hamilton’s latest victory in the British Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton arrived at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on a high after winning his home Grand Prix for the first time and taking the lead in the F1 drivers’ championship.

Hamilton signed autographs and drove his McLaren MP4/22 from last year up the hill. Its Mercedes V8 engine and the roaring crowd competed to see which could make the most noise.

Hamilton said to the audience: “I'm not going to build up your hopes but just to let you know that I'm working as hard as I can to bring the championship home for all of us - keep your fingers crossed.”

But he wasn’t the only entertainment at this year’s Goodwood Festival. The Earl of March laid on so much entertainment it was hard to fit it all in to three days.

Motorcycle trials champion Dougie Lampkin stunned crowds by driving his bike along the roof of Goodwood house (see picture).

But even he couldn’t scale the centrepiece attraction of the show – a towering structure built to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Land Rover.
