Stunning SEVEN-seat 250mph F1 car
30 January 2009
An F1 car with seven seats and a snapshot of The Italian Job? Vijay Pattni is your host for this week’s Weird World of Wheels.
It’s official – this year’s crop of Formula 1 cars are not pretty. In fact, with their tall, narrow spoilers and wide, low front wings, they look quite ugly.
The new designs will apparently allow the cars to race each other more closely, which will open up a new chapter in the F1 books, following Lewis Hamilton’s amazing last-gasp win at the 2008 championship finale in Brazil.
But while the 2009 F1 cars might not be pretty, they still follow convention by having one seat…
Snow White and the seven bankers
Canadian Michael Pettipas has built the world’s fastest street-legal F1 ‘limousine’ – a stretch Formula 1 car with seven seats (pictured above).
And he took this astonishing machine to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah in 2005 in preparation for a daring speed run in an attempt to usurp the (then) fastest car in the world, the Bugatti Veyron.
But if you just want a ride in a unique limo, give him a call or pop over to Canada, where he hires the car out to corporate types for £850 an hour.

The Colorado Job
Cue cliché-ridden lines quoting Michael Caine and his band of miscreants as they desperately try to salvage the gold at the end of their bus in The Italian Job…which is hanging from a cliff.
Life imitates art, it seems, as 34-year-old Daniel Lyons reportedly drove his van off Rim Rock Drive in Colorado last week and fell 120ft before landing on a rock ledge…170ft from the floor of a ravine.
Mr Lyons dialled the emergency services and was saved by Mesa County search and rescue crews who rappelled down into the canyon.

Don’t you want me?
Passengers and crew on a ferry bound for Belfast were left stranded – after it emerged a lorry was stuck on the back.
The ferry had to return to Scotland where a crane was called to remove the rather large ‘hanger-on’.
The alarm was raised after reports of hearing a loud bang, and onlookers described looking out of the rear windows and noticing ‘a lorry hanging out the back’.
Michael Pettipas has built a one-off F1 car - but the Sultan of Brunei owns one of just seven of the world's rarest Ferraris...a Ferrari 'FX' - can you find it in our slideshow below?
North Carolina University students also crafted a special one-off supercar...
