In a Weird World of Wheels special, Vijay Pattni looks at when Top Gear’s stars drive straight into disaster.

“I mean, what could possibly go wrong?”

Well, when you get three petrolheads – or two petrolheads and one ‘Captain Slow’ – put them together on a show, give them V8-powered food-blenders and million-horsepower Swedish supercars, a lot could go wrong.

Like the time the three of them tried to buy cheap Italian supercars which didn’t work. Or when they tried to cross a reservoir in their home-made car boats which sank. Or the time they made three limousines and chauffeured celebrities to the Brit Awards, got lost and broke down.

And it seems the presenters drive full-throttle into disasters in their own cars too. Richard Hammond was involved in a crash in his £110,000 Morgan Aeromax supercar last week – an eye-watering incident which damaged his precious V8-powered car.

Thankfully, Richard walked away without injury and was even reported as exchanging some ‘light-hearted banter’ with the other drivers.

But this isn’t the only time the three presenters – and even his royal Stigness – have been involved in incidents.
