Vijay Pattni is your host for this week’s Weird World of Wheels.

You may have noticed that we’re big petrolheads here at Auto Trader.

From the raucous Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series, the puppy-dog charm of the Renault Clio 200 Cup and even the insane V8-powered BMW Isetta bubble car featured on these very pages, we like stuff which gets the juices flowing (steady).

Which means this freaky lawnmower race in West Sussex is right up our street.

Yes – you read it right: lawnmower racing.

It seems as though when we’re not ragging the nuts off the world’s hottest sportscars on some quality B-roads, us Brits love nothing more than to don crash helmets and start nailing some lawnmowers.

And let’s be honest – we’d all do it given half a chance. It’s got four wheels, a steering wheel and a seat: let’s race!

More than 30 teams competed in last week’s 12-hour Endurance Lawn Mower Race, racing pimped gardening machines around a 0.8-mile grass circuit (obviously), with proper hair-pin turns, chicanes and plenty of long straights.

The 8pm to 8am non-stop race decided to throw in a bit of a challenge this year – after torrential rain turned the field into a mud pit. Drivers were soon wiping mud off their helmets before engines overheated and half of the mowers were consigned to the pits.

After just four-and-a-half hours, the race was officially cancelled because of the weather.

But in case you’re wondering what this mayhem looks like in real life, worry not. Because we’ve got all the pics!
