The Weird World of Wheels
19 October 2007 This week: Tatts the way to do it Every tried lifting a car? I don’t recommend it. Imagine lifting a two-ton truck. That’s exactly what Marine sergeant Carl ‘Tatts’ Tatton did, saving the life of his fellow Marine Mark Farr in Afghanistan. The 29-year-old had become trapped when a mortar explosion caused his truck to roll down into the water-filled ditch where he was working, trapping his leg. Without a thought for his own safety, Colour Sergeant Tatton sprung into action and moved the truck – 13 times his own bodyweight – with his bare hands, saving Farr’s life. Marine Farr said: “Without Watts I’d have drowned. I owe him my life.”
A painting of the Sacre Coeur, a barrel of wine, some fancy cheese - all things you might expect people to bring back from a trip to France. But when Alan and Audrey Plumpton came back from a trip across the channel they found a stowaway – in their engine. A kitten had crawled into the engine compartment of the couple’s car at their holiday cottage in La Briere national park. The Plumptons, from Amersham, have named the cat Lucky. Mr Plumpton said: "The first we knew of him was when we heard crying and saw two little blue eyes staring out from under the bonnet." Lucky has been placed in quarantine for six months. Snooze cruise Rickshaws are a big hit with tourists in London. But how could they be made a bit more comfortable for the sleep-starved traveller? By adding a mattress, a duvet and a pillow, of course. Travelodge have introduced a comfy rickshaw service from their City Road hotel in London to any destination in the centre of the capital – so pooped guests can catch 40 winks on their way into town. The two ‘Kipshaws’ are available on a first come, first served basis. Weird Pic of the Week: Never mind the Pollocks
With the eyes of the world watching this weekend as Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen’s battle it out in the Brazilian Grand Prix, the last thing you want to do is spill a load of paint all over the track. D’oh. Video: Knight rider parks Global communication networks, cars which park themselves, and your entire music collection in your pocket. What a world we live in. Here’s the ad for the self-parking function on Volkswagen’s Touran.
