107-year-old in 400bhp M3 at Brands Hatch
27 March 2009
The oldest woman to lap Brands Hatch in a 400bhp BMW M3 and the world’s first purpose built 300bhp police car – Vijay Pattni is your host for this week’s Weird World of Wheels.
Gran-tourer
I bet your Gran couldn’t go faster than this Kent veteran – especially in a 400bhp BMW M3 coupe.
Adrenaline-junkie Dulcibella King-Hall wanted to celebrate her birthday in style, and in true petrolhead fashion, headed straight for Brands Hatch and the sensational new BMW M3 coupe.
But Miss King-Hall – who has always had a love of cars since the Second World War – turned 107 last Saturday, making her the oldest person to complete a lap at Brands.
And despite her advanced years, Miss King-Hall was well up for it, saying “why shouldn’t I? Don’t you like it? I have a driving licence. I can drive any vehicle.
“I like the feeling of the vehicle going vroom.”
After hitting a 108mph top speed going into Paddock Bend, she gamely joked that her four laps of the famous 1.6-mile course “could have been faster”.
Faster?

The future of law enforcement
Think you can outrun local Bobbies in their 1.6-litre Vauxhall Astras? Think again, because the future of law enforcement could be heading this way – in the shape of the Carbon E7 police car.
No – this isn’t a scene from Robocop, but a call for action: U.S based Carbon Motors has built the world’s very first purpose-built police car.
The company say America’s “other first responders and public servants drive vehicles designed for the job – but our 800,000 law enforcement first responders drive lightly modified retail passenger cars that were never designed to handle the rigorous, round-the-clock demands of law enforcement”.
And to make sure cops have enough firepower to send crims cowering, it’s built the E7 – a 300bhp rear-wheel-drive sportscar capable of 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.
The E7 gets a host of special equipment including “ballistic protection”, a head-up display, nightvision illumination, a reverse backup camera and “integrated shotgun mounts”.
