Back the British boys Lewis Hamilton has taken F1 by storm – winning a race at his sixth attempt and taking the lead of the world championship. Can he win his home race at the first try? Hamilton won in Canada and America this year but lost out to the resurgent Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa in France yesterday. But the 22 year-old from Stevenage has vowed to take the fight to Ferrari at Silverstone on Sunday. There are four British drivers at the Grand Prix this year for the first time since 2002. David Coulthard’s Red Bull is showing great promise this year – but a repeat of his victories of 1999 and 2000 seems unlikely. Having won his first Grand Prix last year Jenson Button has struggled in 2007 with an un-competitive Honda. But the team will bring a revised car to Silverstone. Best of all, there’s two GP2 races: One after F1 qualifying on Saturday, one before the main event on Sunday. Make sure you don't miss them - check out the video below to see some of the outrageous incidents from last weekend's races. Go on Friday Friday may just be the practice day – but it’s the cheapest way of seeing F1 cars in action. Kids get in for £10 on Friday and there are family ticket deals available too. Prepare for rain and sun Silverstone has its own climate. Scorching summer heat can give way to pouring rain in the blink of an eye. This can make for interesting races but soggy spectators – so make sure you pack sun cream and a rain coat…
It can be tough to follow everything that’s happening on a 5.1km track when you can only see a couple of corners. But a brand new invention for 2007 makes it much easier for F1 fans. The Kangaroo TV handset that lets you see live race video, lap times and loads more information. At £50 for the weekend it’s a bit steep – but shared between a couple of people the extra cost is definitely worth it. See Our Nige Nigel Mansell, fan’s favourite and king of Silverstone for years, will be back behind the wheel of an F1 car. Head over to BMW’s Pit Lane Park by Becketts corner to see the 1992 champion take the wheel of a modern F1 BMW. Grab a late ticket The popularity of Lewis Hamilton was expected to make the Grand Prix an instant sell-out – but there are a few tickets left if you’re fast enough. Trackside video Ernesto Viso escaped this shocking crash in Saturday’s GP2 race with only concussion.
